Review: Time on My Hands

When Becky tweeted that she was looking for reviewers for her new ebook Time on My Hands I was all over that. I love clocks and mittens so I really wanted to check it out. With 27 pages and 9 patterns, there was a lot to look at. The bulk of the ebook is patterns, with some helpful info on techniques and abbreviations in the back. And I love how she’s included helpful notes throughout. Each pattern has a coordinating time of day (eg. 3pm Play Time or 8pm Cocktail Hour). There’s a great variety of mittens and fingerless mittens (and even a pair of gloves!) representing a variety  of techniques (colorwork, cables, lace, various edgings).

It was really hard to pick a favorite pattern in this collection. Becky’s attention to detail is impecable, from the thumb gusset cables on the otherwise classic ribbed Sun Dial mitt to the picked up i-cord edge on the Play Time mittens and the Latvian Braids on the Digital Age mitts. I think my favorite of all of them is the Morningtide mitts with their delightful picot edge and simple and attractive all-over colorwork pattern. It’s a really great collection with a pattern for everyone.

Becky’s offered to give away the ebook pattern collection to one of my readers. To enter, comment on this post with your favorite kind of hand covering (mittens, mitts, gloves, ect). One entry per person and I will announce the winner and accept entries until next Wednesday (October 5th).

I love fingerless gloves most of all, especially if they’re on the longer side! :)

    Mittens!! Patterned, bright mittens!

I love mitts – my fingers need to stay together for warmth!

And longer is better, to keep the freezing winter air from blowing up my jacket sleeve.

I have to go with mittens too, and I like them bright and mismatched!

I like mittens the best of all.

I love mittens but ones with a pointy top. I also like wearing fingerless mitts inside very cold offices.

I live in the desert and our winters are pretty mild. I love fingerless mittens!!!

I use to be a “gloves only” type of gal.  With the new flip top mitten craze last winter, I wondered why they were so popular.  My friends mentioned mittens are warmer because they trap warm air in the “pocket” where your fingers hide.  I like the mobility gloves give my fingers, so now I guess I have to knit myself a pair of glittens this winter to test this theory out.

I am a big mitten fan, particularly “glittens” , where one has the option to be momentarily gloved instead. I work in a store and spend a fair bit of time in the walkin freezer, and I would have caved to frostbite a long time ago without my mittens!

I live on the coast, where it’s rather damp and cold in the winter. Instead of cranking up my heating bill just because I have poor circulation, I love to pop on some knitted slippers or socks, and fingerless gloves so I can keep doing whatever it is I’m doing!  Unless I find myself back on the prairies this winter for some crazy reason – then it’s the warmest mittens possible (my Newfoundland Mittens!), sometimes with other mittens inside them.
