• Work in Progress: Mitered Crosses Blanket

I tried to resist, but yesterday, I couldn’t hold out anymore, I cast on for the Mitered Crosses Blanket. It’s going to be a long term project to use up all sorts of scraps of yarn. I have issues with long term projects like this because I want things done right now, but it’s a good exercise in patience, right? I started with some Silk Garden Lite, because what is better than Noro for something like this?  Exactly. The square is beautiful. It really does look like a quilt square. I can’t wait to have more of them (but I will have to because I have to wait to start anymore until I get some other knitting done). And the money from pattern sales goes to support relief work in Japan which is nice.

I also am making some good progress on some socks. They are a couple inches past the heel now, and I am starting to run out of the main color of yarn, since I only had around half a ball left, but I still have lots of the contrasting color so I am going to start some ribbing in that once I do.

  • Freshly blocked

I just finished weaving in the ends and blocking a few projects (and starting some new ones, oops!) so I thought I’d just post some pictures. A lot of them are little crochet hats as I have been trying to use up leftover yarn by turning them into fantastic hats.

  • More mittens and some booties

Yesterday I quickly crocheted up some booties for Little O.

They are pretty cute. I used some Mosaic Moon BFL in Supernova (I need more of this yarn in my life!) and Cascade 220 in Como Blue along with some cute heart buttons I found in my bag of buttons. The pattern was so easy to follow and I think they are adorable.

I also started another pair of mittens. In a gorgeous dark greeny-brown colorway which has such great depth it’s begging to be cabled. The yarn is some Madelinetosh MCN Worsted which is so so so soft and dense. I am excited! I am still also working on my Swallow mittens and am right on  course to get them done for the end of the month.

  • Ryan’s Mittens

I finished another pair of mittens last night. I just had the thumbs left to do, so it wasn’t that much work.

They are seriously super cozy. I used some Malabrigo in Dark Earth and Araucania Toconao Multy in 407. Which is a green/blue/orange/yellow mix. I picked these colors because they reminded me of the way Ryan picks shoes. He always seems to buy a neutral (brown or grey usually) shoe with some crazy color (like orange or red) as an accent color. They were both really soft yarns making for some nice mittens. The pattern is my own, I sketched it out on some graph paper and went with it.

  • NaKniMitMo11/11mittensfor2011

So to get started with my crafty resolutions, I’ve decided to be a joiner. As mentioned, I am going to participate in NaKniMitMo11, but I also decided to join in the 11mittensfor2011 challenge in the I make Mittens ravelry group. The second ball of yarn (an amazing dark intense violet semi solid on an merino-cashmere-nylon base from here) came just in time today, and I just finished winding it up and swatching. I am knitting a new design, I think the title might give it away. So excited!
